Public schools' choral showcases Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights

An early dose of holiday cheer will be spread over three nights when Wayne County Public Schools' presents its annual district-wide choral showcases this week.

Performances will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at Goldsboro High school. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the performances to start at 7.

Admission is $5 and and all proceeds will benefit choral programs at the participating schools. Children under 5 years old are admitted free of charge.

This is the tenth year for the annual event. The showcase first began in 2001 with 12 schools participating and has grown to 29 schools.

"The choral showcase is not only a special holiday event that our community looks forward to watching and listening to each year, but it is also a great opportunity for schools to showcase the talents and hard work of their students," said Hope Meyerhoeffer, WCPS performing arts director.

Below is a schedule of the participating schools each evening:

Monday: Eastern Wayne Elementary, Eastern Wayne High, Eastern Wayne Middle, Greenwood Middle, Meadow Lane Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, Spring Creek High, Tommy's Road Elementary and Wayne Early/Middle College High. Ms. Meyerhoeffer will be mistress of ceremonies.

Tuesday: Brogden Primary, Brogden Middle, Carver Elementary, Carver Heights Elementary, Dillard Middle, Edgewood Community Developmental School, Goldsboro High, Grantham School, Mount Olive Middle, North Drive Elementary, School Street Elementary, and Southern Wayne High. The master of ceremonies will be Marvin McCoy, assistant superintendent for human resource services.

Thursday: Charles B. Aycock High, Fremont STARS Elementary, Northeast Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Norwayne Middle, Rosewood Elementary, Rosewood High, and Rosewood Middle. Rick Pridgen, school board chairman, will serve as emcee.
