The American Cancer Society in Wayne County is looking for volunteers for its Road to Recovery program to help drive cancer patients to and from their cancer treatments. For many cancer patients, getting to and from treatment, is their greatest barrier to beating cancer and this is a program that helps those in Wayne County who may need it most, and allows volunteers to give back to the community.

"A successful Road to Recovery program through the American Cancer Society is a tremendous asset to the community, and volunteers provide an essential and life-saving service," said Christine Yancey, Wayne County community manager for the American Cancer Society. "They ensure that all cancer patients in Wayne County are able to take advantage of the latest medical advantages and receive regular cancer treatments."

Even the most advanced medical treatment is useless if the patient cannot get to treatment, so join this meaningful program and make a positive difference in the life of a cancer patient, Yancey said.

Free training and program supplies are provided to each volunteer. Requirements for volunteering for Road to Recovery include a good driving record, a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and a vehicle that is in good working condition. Volunteers can choose to volunteer as much or as little as they like.
