Goldsboro writer wins award for history book

Emily Weil of Goldsboro received the Willie Parker Peace History Book Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians Inc. at a recent awards banquet in Mooresville.
The award was for her book, "Cornwallis' Campaign: Wilmington to Yorktown."
The judges called Mrs. Weil's book "an exciting book to read. It was tremendously educational and brought to light the people and places that were involved as Cornwallis and his army moved from Wilmington to Yorktown."
They also noted that "many histories before this have touched on the subject here and there, but none have ever given so many details nor put the reader in the crowd as British troops march by from one place to another. We actually felt like we were part of the Revolution rather than on the outside looking in, the book was that good."
The judges were impressed with the way Mrs. Weil made the book a reader-friendly history book that is historically correct. They said the details in the book would have probably been overlooked if they had not been written down in this manner.
"Needless to say, I am honored to have received such a prestigious award," Mrs. Weil said. "I have no idea who nominated me."
The North Carolina Society of Historians present awards each year for historical and genealogical categories relating to local, regional or statewide people, places or events.
This year the group received 723 entries and gave out 90 awards, most for newspaper articles and newsletters by historical societies and churches.
