DOT schedules 'listening sessions'

One of four public "listening sessions" scheduled by the N.C. Department of Transportation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m. at the Global TransPark Center Training Facility auditorium at Kinston.
The meetings, to be held across the state in November, are designed so that the public can offer suggestions on the way the department's 10-year work program for transportation projects is determined.
The input gathered at the "listening sessions" will help shape an updated strategic prioritization process that will set criteria for deciding which projects will be included in future work programs, DOT officials said.
The DOT's project prioritization process and its work program are part of its new strategic planning process, which is built on professional, transparent and strategic decision making, and designed to reform the way DOT does business, the officials said.
The work program ensures that limited transportation funding is properly invested to achieve the best results possible for the citizens of North Carolina, they said.
The other sessions are:
* Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. at RDU Airport Authority, 1000 Trade Drive
* Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center
* Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. at Western Piedmont Community College at Morganton.
