Mount Olive man shot on street in afternoon

MOUNT OLIVE -- A man was shot twice Thursday afternoon in front of a Mount Olive convenience store.
Anthony Rivers, 22, of East Kornegay Street in Mount Olive was reportedly shot in the leg and in the side in the parking lot of a convenience store known as Andy's at the corner of Church and Maple streets in Mount Olive. The shooting happened around 3 p.m.
A fight took place at the location earlier in the afternoon, according to Mount Olive police reports.
Rivers was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police reported as non-fatal.
Rivers was seen in the emergency department at Wayne Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital. Pitt Memorial Hospital officials did not return phone calls about Rivers' status by presstime.
Mount Olive police took out a warrant for arrest this morning for a subject believed to be responsible for the shooting. No charges have been filed yet.
Additionally, a vehicle near the scene was struck by a bullet. No one in the car was injured.
Mount Olive officers are still investigating the events surrounding the shooting.
