Authorities have released the names of victims of a Monday morning accident that left one person dead and five injured.
The crash occurred early Monday morning on Herring Road.
The accident was fatal for the youngest of the group, Jose Vazquez, 19, of Mount Olive. Vazquez was one of two people ejected from the vehicle. Carolina Rodriquez, 26, of Goldsboro, also was ejected. Ms. Rodriquez was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital on Monday, where she is currently in stable condition.
Mestedez Vazques, 31, of Mount Olive, was driving the Chevy Suburban, which ended up on its roof on the side of road near the intersection with U.S. 13. He has been charged with one count of misdemeanor death. The other passengers in the vehicle were Julio Vazquez, 27, Fernando Sanchez, 28, and Manuel Diaz, 36, all of Dudley.
"The vehicle ran off the road, overcorrected, then lost control and overturned," state Highway Patrol First Sgt. Jerry Burton said.
Speed, he added, was likely a factor.
