FREMONT -- Three people died early Sunday in a single-vehicle accident on N.C. 222 near its intersection with Airport Road, according to investigators with the state Highway Patrol.

A fourth person was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The three were Joshua Brantley, 25, of Fremont; Jacob Floars, 17, of Fremont; and Ashley Haskins, 18, of Fremont.

Mark Aaron Pope, 17, was flown to Pitt Memorial Hospital. Word on his condition was not available.

Highway Patrol Sgt. C.J. Owens said the driver of the vehicle apparently lost control and the vehicle swerved across the highway before leaving the roadway, striking a ditch and overturning several times.

Speed was a factor in the accident, the sergeant said. The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. The vehicle was traveling west.
