Salvation Army preparing for annual Christmas stockings

The Salvation Army is preparing for its annual Christmas help program by asking businesses, civic groups, church groups and individuals to help stuff stockings.
The stockings are a highlight of the charity's Toy Shop.
They will be ready for pickup Oct. 20 at the Salvation Army at 610 N. William St. They should be returned no later than Dec. 8.
They are 24-inch red mesh stockings that are given to needy children in the community, who might not otherwise have anything on Christmas Day. Each year, the Salvation Army gives out about 1,000 of the stockings.
