Disability Committee award nods due soon

Nominations for awards to be presented by the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities are due Oct. 4.
The awards will be presented at the City of Goldsboro's Community Affairs Office annual awards luncheon on Oct. 21 at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Enlisted Club.
Awards will be presented to the Employer of the Year, the Employee of the Year, the Committee Member of the Year, the Most Accessible Business and the Mayor's Trophy, which is given to an individual or organization that has made significant contributions in support of people with disabilities.
The Employer of the Year is one who has demonstrated outstanding achievement improvement employment opportunities for the disabled.
The Employee of the Year is one who has overcome handicaps to achieve success in the workplace.
The Most Accessible Business is one that has made significant strides in making itself more accessible to the handicapped.
Nomination forms can be obtained at the city's Community Affairs Office.
Sponsors also are being sought for the luncheon. They may be individuals or businesses. The cost of a sponsorship is $300 and includes eight admission tickets and recognition on the event program. The sponsorship deadline is Oct. 8.
Admission for individuals is $12.
The guest speaker at the event will be John Register of Inspired Communications.
Register is a Gulf War veteran and amputee athlete who has a Paralympic Games silver medal. He is associate director for Community and U.S. Paralympics Military Programs.
