Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County are hosting a family fun day on Friday, encouraging adults to find ways to spend quality time with young people.

It's all part of the organization's effort to establish stronger relationships between adults and youth, said Jill Oaks, outreach coordinator for the Paley Unit on Royall Avenue.

"Boys & Girls Day for Kids is a day set aside each year to celebrate and honor America's children by spending meaningful time with them," she said. "It's about celebrating kids -- children, grandchildren or any child in need of mentoring."

Clubs around the county will participate in Friday's event, held from 4 to 6 p.m.

At the Royall Avenue site, there will be tours of the club, along with information about some of the programs offered, including Smart Girls, Street Smarts, Passport to Manhood and Power Hour.

There also will be free food, ice cream, games, prizes, inflatables, music and a special presentation by Ronald McDonald.

The Mount Olive unit, located at 600 S. Breazeale Avenue, will also feature a parent versus member games tournament along with outdoor games, relays and a football rodeo.

The Northern Wayne unit, located at 405 Sycamore Street in Fremont, will feature a game of kickball, members vs. parents, and other game-room challenge games.

Memberships to the club are $10 for a year.
