Despite two tractor trailers, including one hog truck, colliding and catching fire at the intersection of N.C. 111 and N.C. 55 Monday, state Highway Patrol Trooper Benny Grady said neither driver and none of the hogs were injured.

He explained that the accident occurred when the vehicle traveling north on N.C. 111, driven by Albert Grant of Palm Bay, Fla., stopped at the stop sign and attempted to turn left onto N.C. 55 West. Grady said that when Grant turned, he was struck by the truck traveling east on N.C. 55, which was driven by Anthony Whitaker of Greenville.

Grady said Whitaker's truck struck Grant's, separating the cab from the trailer, pushing it into the westbound lane, at which point the trailer and Whitaker's truck all caught fire.

Fortunately, Grady said Grant's trailer was empty and all the hogs on Whitaker's truck were saved by the responding fire departments.

"They did a great job," Grady said.

Responding were Seven Springs and Pricetown fire departments.
