Arson
Police responded Friday night to a call of a visible fire at a residence at 134 Astor Court. Head of household Vanisha Thompson advised police that she and her boyfriend Cortez McNair returned to the home and could see and smell smoke coming from the residence.
Ms. Thompson reported seeing a man she knows walking from the back bedroom with a stereo in his hands. The man was detained by McNair while Ms. Thompson ran to the back bedroom and found two bags of her clothing on fire. McNair reportedly fought with the subject, who then reportedly ran toward Rockefeller Court. McNair called 911.
Police arrested Donte Davis, 26, of North George Street and charged him with second degree arson, second degree burglary and attempted felonious larceny. He was placed under a $25,000 bond.
Damaging fire
Firefighters from Mar-Mac, Arrington and Dudley responded to a call at 101 Running Deer Circle around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. A single-wide mobile home was on fire and one person sustained injuries.
"At this time it seems like it was an unattended cooking," Arrington Fire Department Chief Randy Rogers said.
The damage was mostly in the kitchen area of the home. The property owner was injured when he escaped the home and was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
"The homeowner got cut up, got a few lacerations to legs and arms having to go out a side window," he said.
