Police chase alleged robber

Goldsboro police look over a car this morning that was stolen and involved in a crash at the intersection N.C. 111 South and U.S. 70 East. The suspect and another driver were taken to the hospital for treatment.
A Virginia man led Goldsboro police on a chase this morning after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint.
DeMario Edwards called police after he said he was robbed on Wayne Avenue. Edwards continued to follow the suspect, who had fled the scene in a white crossover vehicle, and gave police a description of the vehicle.
Near the intersection of Elm Street and South Berkeley Boulevard, police took over the pursuit which proceeded to U.S. 70 East. Police Sgt. Chad Callaway said that while the suspect did reach high speeds on the freeway, the police remained a good distance behind due to the other traffic.
The chase came to an abrupt end at the intersection of Millers Chapel Road and U.S. 70 when the suspect collided with another, uninvolved driver and flipped his vehicle. Both the suspect and the other driver were injured and taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Callaway said the vehicle the suspect was driving was stolen out of Virginia and the suspect was also had a warrant for his arrest in Virginia.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the Goldsboro Fire Department also responded to the incident. The robbery victim, Edwards, was not injured.
Early reports indicated that there were two suspects involved, but Callaway said that doesn't appear to be the case.
