Host families for foreign students visiting the United States through East Carolina University's Terra Lingua/Terre des Langues program are being sought in the Goldsboro area.

Homes for three high school students from Spain are needed between now and July 28, and homes for six students from France are needed between July 10 and Aug. 7.

Also, there will be two language teachers in addition to the students.

The McCoy family of Dudley and the Hood family of Mount Olive are among area participants in the program this year

The exchange students will not attend classes and will participate in their host family's daily life and activities.

Each student has a minimum proficiency level in English, is fully insured and brings spending money.

Hosts need not to have children to qualify.

After a home visit, each student or foreign language teacher will be matched with a family according to gender, activities and interests. The same opportunity is made available to American high school students in France or Spain.

"It presents a unique opportunity to learn about the French or Spanish culture first hand outside the classroom," said Prof. Frédéric Fladenmuller, who directs the program.
