Jones accepts plea bargain

A man accused of attempted murder who led police on a six-month search for him took a plea deal with prosecutors on Tuesday.
Icshon Jones, 27, will serve between 5 1/2 and 7 1/4 years in prison for the convicted offense, discharging a firearm into occupied property.
On March 20, 2008, Jones, then 25 and living on Courtyard Circle, shot into an occupied vehicle at a store in the 500 block of East Elm Street with the intention of killing a person inside, police say.
Investigators said drug sales were a behind-the-scenes factor in the shooting, although those charges against Jones were dropped in the plea agreement.
In exchange for pleading guilty to the count of discharging a firearm into the car, prosecutors dropped all other charges against Jones -- including possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled drug and possession of a stolen firearm.
After police caught up to Jones after their multi-month search, Jones was indicted in September 2009, about a year after he was captured.
Judge Arnold Jones, who presided over Jones' hearing, ordered that Jones undergo psychological evaluation as a stipulation in addition to the active sentence.
In other events related to the case, a co-defendant in the original attempted murder case now faces additional drug charges.
Geneva Delores Phillips, 22, was arrested on Parkway Drive on Tuesday afternoon, and police seized 200 "Ecstasy" pills, four grams of cocaine and a misdemeanor-level amount of marijuana, a detective said.
A search warrant also was served at her home at 131 Woodside Circle, the detective said.
The narcotics investigator said he could not comment on either Jones' case nor the one pending against Miss Phillips, because of the open nature of Miss Phillips' case.
Miss Phillips faces charges including possession of "Ecstasy" with intent to sell or deliver, possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, possession of marijuana, and one count each of maintaining a vehicle and dwelling for controlled drugs, authorities said.
