MOUNT OLIVE -- A 77-year-old Mount Olive woman died Thursday after a Wednesday evening accident at the intersection of N.C. 55 and Indian Springs Road, the Highway Patrol reported.

Veola Aultmon, of Nelson Street, Mount Olive, died of her injuries at a hospital following the crash, High-way Patrol Sgt. H.G. Tucker said.

Mrs. Aultmon was headed north on Indian Springs Road, Tucker said, and reportedly failed to yield the right of way to a GMC pickup truck headed east on N.C. 55 around 5:40 p.m. on May 12.

Two other people involved in the crash were not seriously injured, authorities said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Scott Davidson, 39, of Camp Jubilee Road, Seven Springs, and Mrs. Aultmon's 3-year-old passenger, Sadiyyah Dodd, were not badly hurt, the sergeant said.

Davidson was not charged with any traffic citations after the crash, and the speed of neither vehicle played a role in the crash, the sergeant said. All of the vehicles' occupants were wearing seat belts, Tucker said.

The Highway Patrol's investigation indicated that Mrs. Aultmon was traveling at 5 mph or less when she allegedly pulled in front of Davidson's pickup.

Tucker said a diagram on the report showed that the crash was a "T-bone"-style collision.

"According to the diagram, she was pretty much struck right in her driver's side door," the sergeant said.

The crash caused an estimated $4,500 in damages to Mrs. Aultmon's 1996 Buick sedan, and about $3,500 in damages to Davidson's 1996 GMC truck, the report shows.

Mrs. Aultman was initially transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for her injuries.

The sergeant said he was unsure if the 77-year-old was taken elsewhere for treatment.
