William J. Neal was found guilty this morning in the 1987 rape of a 12-year-old girl. Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Wayne County Superior Court.

Both the victim and Dwayne Dail, who was exonerated in 2007 after he was wrongfully convicted of the crime in 1987, addressed the court. Both implored Judge Arnold Jones to invoke the maximum sentences.

Neal was found guilty of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual offense, both of which carry mandatory life sentences. He also was found guilty of first-degree burglary and indecent liberties with a minor.

Neal could face up to life in prison on the burglary charge and up to 10 years on the indecent liberties charge.
