Police have a person of interest but are not ready to make an arrest in the shooting of a 15-year-old Goldsboro boy on Saturday evening.

Spokesman Sgt. Chad Calloway said the as-of-yet unidentified teen was walking in the 700 block of North Taylor Street around 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The boy heard at least one shot and realized a round had struck him, leading him to run to his home on the south side of Goldsboro.

The sergeant said police would not release the street where the teen lives.

After running home, the 15-year-old told his mother about the incident, who called for an ambulance, the sergeant said.

The teen has since been treated and released for his injuries, a person familiar with the case said.

Calloway said he was "getting ready to assign (the case) to an investigator," and did not have further detail.

Although police have a person of interest, interviews have not yet been conducted and no arrest warrants have been filed, the sergeant said.

"We need to work it and find out what we've got," Calloway said.
