Antonio Saucezo carries trays of young tobacco plants to be transplanted on the farm of Major and Tony Jones of the Smith Chapel community in southern Wayne this morning. The Joneses got a jump on most tobacco farmers by starting transplanting today. Within a few weeks, the plants will have tripled in size and be on their way to becoming head high by summer. Wayne farmers will grow about 10,000 acres of tobacco this year, agriculture officials estimate.
