Wayne County Public Schools will hold its annual teacher job fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Goldsboro High School gymnasium.

Prospective teachers can visit and learn about the programs and job opportunities at the district's 31 schools. Representatives will also be available to answer questions about licensure, salary, benefits and scheduling.

Principals will also be on hand to discuss openings at the individual schools and conduct on-site interviews.

The district offers a variety of incentives to newly-certified and veteran teachers, said Marvin McCoy, assistant superintendent for human resource services.

He said the school system currently offers a $2,000 sign-on bonus for certified teachers, as well as a 6.5 percent annual supplement.

Local businesses also provide various discounts and services to new and currently-employed educators.

At Saturday's career fair, Wayne County Chamber of Commerce will provide snacks and refreshments, while members of the Chamber's Teacher Recruitment/Retention Committee will have representatives on hand to discuss some of the advantages of living and working in Wayne County.
