The annual All-County Choral Festival for Wayne County Public Schools will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Dillard Middle School, with 29 schools represented.

More than 260 chorus students were chosen to participate in the vocal showcase.

The choral festival is divided into three segments, with performances by elementary, middle and high school students.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, is one of the year's highlights and the culmination of much effort in the schools' music programs.

"Our schools have some very talented students. It is always an enjoyable evening for the hundreds of family members, staff and community members who come out to hear these singers take the stage," said Dr. Steven Taylor, schools superintendent.

Choral directors at each school select students to be a part of the program, based on vocal ability and work ethic.

"Our students consistently put on high caliber performances because they are willing to work hard, pay attention to their instructor and practice," Taylor said.

Hope Meyerhoeffer, performing arts director for the district, will serve as the evening's mistress of ceremonies.

Among the musical selections being performed this year are "I Am But A Small Voice," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "Kyrie" and "Swing Down Chariot."
