Cliffs hosting several weekend events

The Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, which launched its new season in March, has several activities going on this weekend that are free and open to the public.
"Bicycle Birding" will be held on Sunday from 9 to 10 a.m., weather permitting. Bring a bike and join a ranger for a Sunday morning ride through the park roads, stopping to observe birds along the way. Also bring binoculars and water. Children under 12 must wear knee pads and a helmet.
Meet at the museum, at the park entrance. Registration is required. Call the park office, 778-6234 or e-mail candace.rose@ncdenr.gov.
From noon until 2 p.m. Sunday, there will be an outdoor cooking potluck, which will also feature a competition. Come to the picnic area and gain some tips about cooking outdoors.
Bring your own camp stove, or grills are available. Registration is required by calling the park office or e-mail candace.rose@ ncdenr.gov.
Prizes and certificates will be given for the most creative dish, best tasting and the best overall campfire-prepared meal and best overall campstove-prepared meal. Tasters are also welcome.
