The finale of the annual "Wayne County Reads" campaign will be held Monday night at the county Arts Council.

Winners in the "What Book Would You Save?" contest will read their entries at a reception beginning at 7 p.m.

The book chosen for this year's campaign is "Fahrenheit 451," a science-fiction classic by Ray Bradbury that describes a future society in which books are banned and burned. The hero turns from a man who burns books for a living to one who discovers their value and rebels.

The essay question posed "In a society where all books except religious works are being destroyed, if you could save one book, what would it be, and why?

The essays were judged by the Goldsboro Writers Group.

Five students will read their essays and receive their prizes at the event.
