The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating the third robbery of a Dollar General store since November 2009, Capt. Tom Effler said this morning.
Effler said that the Dollar General at 2469 U.S. 117 South was robbed by three males who entered the store with their faces covered.
"From the witnesses' statements, two to three black males entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint," Effler said.
The amount of money taken was not released, the Sheriff's Office captain said.
Witnesses said that the males wore dark clothing, with bandannas or hooded sweatshirts covering their faces.
"From the description of the victims, they (the suspects) are believed to be black males," Effler said.
The robbery took place at 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Effler said.
Other area communities have also suffered recent armed robberies at Dollar General outlets, the captain said.
The Pikeville Police Department is still investigating a robbery that occurred on Dec. 13, and the Wilson Police Department is looking into another robbery that reportedly took place on Feb. 19, Effler said.
