Former CBA band director conducting regional jazz ensemble

Roger M. Walker, retired Charles B. Aycock High School band director and current music director of the Starlight Dance Band, will be conducting high school musicians from across eastern North Carolina in the N.C. Jazz Region East Clinic at East Carolina University on Friday and Saturday.
Directing the East Region Jazz Ensemble A, he will feature works from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico, Frank Foster and others, teaching students jazz styles, jazz articulations, jazz idioms and the many jazz expressions needed to interpret the composer's composition.
The concert will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at ECU's School of Music Recital Hall.
