State Treasurer Janet Cowell is expected to kick off a financial fair at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Friday, 4th Fighter Wing officials confirmed late Wednesday.
Ms. Cowell, the state's first female treasurer, marks the second high-profile visitor to stop at the installation in the past few months. In December, Gov. Beverly Perdue toured the base and spoke about her deep affection for the efforts of the airmen who served in Afghanistan in 2009 and their families.
No details on the treasurer's talking points have been released, but she is expected to address those who turn out for the fair around 9 a.m.
Ms. Cowell, an economic development expert, venture capitalist and former state senator, boasts that she has helped create thousands of jobs and helped both business and government work more efficiently.
During her run for treasurer, she vowed to "make government work again and protect our financial future, by making sure our banks are stable and our pensions are sound."
