Stolen funeral tent

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home on U.S. 117 South in Dudley reported Monday that a burgundy, 15-foot-by-15-foot funeral tent had been stolen from a cemetery. The poles to prop up the tent were also stolen, at a total loss of about $1,962 to Shumate-Faulk, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said it would investigate the matter further, according to a report.

Car driven into bushes

A South Virginia Street woman reported that persons unknown drove her Mazda 626 into the bushes behind her home, causing about $3,000 in damages to the vehicle on Monday afternoon, police said. Hiawatha Jones, 57, said she was warming up her car in the driveway, according to the report. When she came out of her home about five minutes later, she found the car in the bushes. Police closed the case due to an exhausting of leads, the report shows.
