ROSEWOOD -- An 18-year-old Durham man allegedly driving a stolen car from Kinston into Wayne County was arrested by county Sheriff's Office deputies on Tuesday morning, a patrol corporal said.

Jonathan Minor Alston, 18, of Durham, was behind the wheel of a white 2007 Toyota Camry when spotted around LaGrange by police who had been alerted to look for the vehicle, Wayne County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Patrick Hux said.

A freelance News-Argus photographer, Bobby Williams, also was in pursuit of the vehicle and phoned in his location to the Sheriff's Office, Hux said.

The chase ended around Earl Drive, off of U.S. 70 West, near Bill's Golf Carts, Newcomb Family Care and Goldsboro Machine Works, and not far from the Wal-Mart shopping center.

Alston allegedly gave a false name to police at first, but later relented and provided his real identification, the corporal said.

Authorities said they initially thought Alston had old probation-related warrants, but nothing they could confirm.

Alston was turned over to the Kinston Police Department, who had issued the "be on the lookout" or "bolo" alert on Tuesday morning.

"One of their officers came here and picked him up at the (Sheriff's Office) annex," Hux said.
