Wayne County has a contestant in the North Carolina Junior Miss program this weekend.

Tara Victoria Warren, 17, won the title of Wayne County's Junior Miss during the state's at-large scholarship program, held in Reidsville in October. According to representatives from the program, this is the first time Wayne County will have a contestant in the state event.

Miss Warren, a senior at Wayne Early/Middle College High School, has been in Greensboro all week preparing for the pageant, which is being held in Greensboro tonight and Saturday night.

There are 25 contestants competing for the state title. Judging is based on talent, fitness, poise, appearance and self-expression.

For her talent, Miss Warren will perform a lyrical ballet to "Phantom of the Opera."

Winner of the state crown will travel to Mobile, Ala. in June to participate in the national finals, competing with representatives from all 50 states to become America's Junior Miss and a share of more than $125,000 in college scholarships.

Miss Warren is the daughter of John and Patricia Warren of Goldsboro.
