WCC announces theme, speaker for MLK Day celebration

"Are We Living the Dream?" is the theme of this year's Martin Luther King celebration at Wayne Community College.
Dr. Yolanda Burwell, a senior fellow with the N.C. Rural Economic Development Center, Inc., will speak during the annual event, planned for Thursday at 2 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium.
The event is free and open to the public.
In line with the late Dr. King's emphasis on economic issues, the program will feature a showcase of small business enterprises of Wayne County, commonly referred to as the "Informal Market," said Lalie Cobb-Kornegay, associate director of the college's Small Business and Industry Center.
"These small businesses were developed from local talent, given business assistance and unique resources. Local small businesses provide economic stimulation to their families, jobs, income and opportunity," she said.
The showcase will start at 1:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the Wayne Learning Center.
Following the day's program, attendees can enjoy a free "Southern Food Fest," prepared by faculty, staff and students.
