PIKEVILLE -- Pikeville police responded to an armed robbery call Sunday night at the Dollar General in town.
According to Police Chief Pascal Tucker, three men entered the store between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m. and demanded an employee go to the back of the store and get money from the safe.
Tucker said at least one of the men had a gun and the store had at least one customer in it at the time.
In addition to money from the safe, the robbers also took money from the cash register, although Tucker declined to estimate how much.
As of Monday morning, the police department had not made arrests, but Tucker said officers are looking into a possible connection with another Dollar General armed robbery in the county.
"We don't know if they're the same suspects, but they might be," he said.
According to Wayne County Sheriff's Office Captain Tom Effler, the Mar Mac Dollar General, at 8404 U.S. 17 S., was robbed on Nov. 27.
Effler said two men entered the store with guns and wearing masks. They also demanded the safe be opened.
After taking the money, they ran out of the store. Effler did not specify the amount of money taken.
