A 22-year-old Goldsboro man faces a count of second-degree rape after an investigation into the alleged assault of a 19-year-old female victim, city police said Wednesday.

Shane Allen Moore of Wharton Lane, was released under a $25,000 unsecured bond after being charged, according to Investigator Paige Learnard.

Moore is accused of raping a Greensboro woman on Aug. 22, an acquaintance he had known through friends for some time, Ms. Learnard said.

Moore was placed into the pre-trial release program in addition to the unsecured bail, according to a news release.

Second-degree rape is defined by state law as forcible vaginal intercourse, and is a Class C felony, punishable by as much as 50 years in prison in addition to fines.

The assault allegedly occurred at a residence within the city limits of Goldsboro, and a number of other people were present at the time of the assault, police said.

Police do not believe there were any eyewitnesses to the assault.

However, Learnard said many people were at the home during the incident, which took place during the "early morning hours" on Aug. 22, Ms. Learnard said.

The number of witnesses present made it difficult to track all of them down, the investigator said.

"It took me quite a while to get a hold of all my witnesses. There were a lot of witnesses involved in this case," Ms. Learnard said.
