Two administrators at Grantham School have taken leadership honors for the district.
Lisa Tart, principal, was named Wachovia Principal of the Year for 2009-10, and assistant principal Youlonda Wynn was named assistant principal of the year for Wayne County Public Schools.
An educator since 1994, Mrs. Tart came to Wayne County Public Schools in 1996 as an English/history teacher at Rosewood Middle. In 2000, she became assistant principal there and then principal in 2002. She transferred to Grantham in 2006 to become its principal.
A graduate of East Carolina University, she holds a bachelor's degree in middle grades education and master's degrees in school administration and middle grades education.
This is the 27th year Wachovia Bank has sponsored the financial award, providing $200 and the chance to represent the district in the regional competition.
Mrs. Wynn has worked in education since 1997, starting her career as a fourth-grade teacher at E.K. Powell Elemen-tary School in Durham. She joined Wayne County Public Schools in 1998 as a second-grade teacher at North Drive Elementary in 1998. In 2006, she was named to her current position.
Mrs. Wynn was also a N.C. Teaching Fellow and a N.C. Principals Fellow.
She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from N.C. Central University and a master's degree in school administration from East Carolina University.
The WCPS Principals and Assistant Principals Assoc-iation created the assistant principal of the year award in 2007 to recognize the leader who has proven to be hard working, dedicated to meeting student needs and goes above and beyond what is required.
