Man arrested for attempted murder

A man sought for the stabbing of a former girlfriend on Park Road near Seven Springs has been caught in Richmond County, authorities said late Tuesday.
Wayne County Sheriff's Office Det. Sgt. Rick Farfour, the lead investigator in the case, said at 5 p.m. Tuesday that Mack Recardo Lewis, formerly of Rocky Mount, had been captured by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Lewis, 26, allegedly kicked in the door of the home of Gloria Peacock on Nov. 9, and assaulted the woman who shared at least one child with Lewis.
Ms. Lewis has since been released from the hospital, Farfour said.
Children in the home at the time, aged between 1 and 8, were not injured, but might have been witnesses to a stabbing described as "brutal" by one detective.
One investigator said the scene inside Ms. Peacock's home was "very bloody," and that Lewis might have used two knives to assault his former girlfriend, allegedly retrieving a second weapon after the first one broke, investigators said.
Farfour and fellow officers Robert Chunn, Larry Mitchell and Richard Winders responded to the crime scene, Sheriff's Office Capt. Tom Effler said.
Effler said the federal marshals did not go into detail as to how they apprehended Lewis.
After his arrest on Tuesday, deputies from the Wayne County office met with the marshals and took Lewis into custody.
Lewis had been entered into the National Crime Information Center, making his information available to law enforcement nationwide, Effler said.
"He was entered NCIC, and the Marshals Service a lot of times picks up fugitives that are entered," Effler said. "And if they've got a good lead on him, they try to apprehend them and bring them to the charging authorities."
Lewis is being held in the Wayne County Jail under more than $1 million secured bond on charges of first-degree burglary, attempted murder and violating his probation.
Sheriff Carey Winders praised the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance.
