Microsoft training to be offered locally

Wayne Community College is participating in a program that provides free Windows and Microsoft training and certification exams.
The Elevate America-North Carolina initiative is a Microsoft Corp. project that will provide free vouchers for Microsoft E-Learning training courses and select Microsoft certification exams. Participants can learn how to use the Internet and how to send e-mail and become proficient in word processing and creating spreadsheets.
Individuals have several options depending on their current needs and skill level. Elevate America will offer everything from certificates of completion for the basic computer training courses to more formal Microsoft business certifications in programs such as Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel and Access. The voucher program for advanced training and certification exams will be administered by Wayne Community College. The intermediate level training vouchers are distributed by the JobLink Career Center at the Employment Security Commission office.
Any N.C. resident may participate, but only a limited number of vouchers are available. The distribution period for the vouchers ends Feb. 17, 2010. Those receiving a training voucher must activate and register their voucher number on the Microsoft Web site, and individuals receiving business certification vouchers must complete all exams by Feb. 17, 2010.
An initial assessment will determine skill level so training and/or certification tracks can be identified. The schedule for the initial assessments is 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 3, 1-3 p.m. on Dec. 8, 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 10, 1-3 p.m. on Dec 15 and 9-11 a.m. on Dec. 17.
