After several days of watching weather reports, threat of heavy rain has prompted members of the Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition to cancel Wednesday's Veterans Day parade.
"We hate to do it. Hate to do it," said Bill Graham, commander of the organization. "A lot of work went into planning it."
But after discussing the forecast with Military Order of the Purple Heart state commander Mike Burris this morning, Graham determined that there is no sense in going forward with the event -- or rescheduling it.
"We would have to start all over again with the permit sand all," he said. "And Wednesday is the federal holiday meant for honoring veterans."
But residents can still pay tribute to those who have worn their country's uniform, Graham said.
They need only look skyward the next time they hear the roar of F-15E Strike Eagles passing overhead.
"They can look up and thank God that there are men and women still committed to continuing on," Graham said.
