DOT making Dudley intersection four-way stop

Rain has delayed the N.C. Department of Transportation plans to turn the intersection of Sleepy Creek Road (State Route 1120) and Emmaus Church Road (S.R. 1932) east of Dudley in Wayne County into a four-way stop.
Currently, vehicles on Sleepy Creek Road are required to stop, but traffic on Emmaus Church Road is not required to stop.
New signs warning motorists to new traffic patterns and to "Stop Ahead" are in place, but will remain covered until the new stop signs are in place.
The remainder of the work, including painting stop bars on the road to show motorists where to stop, was to have begun on Monday, but was delayed because of the rain. There was a slim possibility the work could resume today should the pavement dry sufficiently.
If not, then the work should start Thursday.
This intersection is being converted to a four-way stop following a DOT investigation that found crash history and other factors warranted installing the stop signs on Emmaus Church Road.
On-site flagmen will control traffic through the intersection while work is under way.
As drivers approach the intersection, they are advised to follow these right-of-way rules:
*The first vehicle to the intersection has the right of way ahead of any vehicle that has not yet arrived
*When two or more vehicles reach an intersection at the same time, the vehicle to the right has the right of way
*The vehicle with the right of way may move straight ahead or, if legal and after signaling, turn left or right
*When two facing vehicles approach an intersection at the same time, both drivers can move straight ahead or turn right. If one driver is going straight while the other wants to turn left, the driver who wants to turn left must yield. The driver who is traveling straight has the right of way
*Even with the right of way, remember to use the appropriate turn signals and be careful to avoid hitting other vehicles and/or pedestrians.
