KENANSVILLE -- Volunteers are needed for the "Hogs n' Hens" barbecue cook-off and festival at the Duplin County Events Center Saturday.
"Hogs n' Hens for Hope" is the first major fundraiser for the recently launched North Carolina chapter of Lazarex Cancer Foundation.
General admission is only $15 for adults and kids under 5 are free.
In exchange for volunteering for four hours, people will receive free admission and a T-shirt. Those who give six or more hours of their time also will get a free meal.
The event will feature a full day of great food, great music, and affordable fun for the whole family. "Hogs n' Hens for Hope" runs from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Among the special features of this event is a North Carolina Pork Council sanctioned barbecue cook-off featuring some of the finest cchefs in the region. Live music and attractions such as a bungee trampoline, rock climbing wall, mechanical bull, dual slide, extreme obstacle course, Jurassic adventure, circus train crawl-through, clubhouse moon bounce, inflatable twister, 3-lane bungee run, velcro wall, rock n' roll joust, nine-hole putting course and carnival games.
There will also be live demonstrations by master chainsaw carver and award-winning sculptor, Marlin Miller.
