Man shot in head in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE -- A Dudley man was shot in the head at a party early Saturday morning, Mount Olive police said Monday.
Alcohol is believed to be involved in the shooting of Christopher Lee Pride, 20, of Marshall Drive, Mount Olive Police Department Investigator C.J. Weaver said.
Pride suffered a single gunshot wound to the head from a .22-caliber firearm, police said. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital. He was listed as being in fair condition, a hospital representative said this morning.
Timothy Ashford, 23, of East Nelson Street in Mount Olive, was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Ashford was taken to the Wayne County Jail and placed under a $5,000 bond.
The shooting, which police believe was not intentional, happened at a party at a residence in Dudley shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
The victim's family was contacted after the shooting, Weaver said.
