KENANSVILLE -- A 17-year-old teenager whose body was found last Friday morning in a mobile home at Albertson had been shot and two "persons of interest" have been questioned in the case, Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace said today.

Wallace said an autopsy determined that Kener Lopez Barahona, who lived with a roommate in the trailer on Guy Sanderson Road in Albertson in northern Duplin County, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The type of weapon was not released due to the ongoing investigation.

Barahona's body was found by his roommate, Wallace said. He said that because the death is still being investigated, other details about the "persons of interest" were not being released.

The incident has been determined to be a homicide and the sheriff's office is checking some possible leads in the case, Wallace said.

He said a window was broken out in Barahona's trailer.

"We don't know if someone broke in or if it (the broken window) was caused by some type of altercation, but it didn't appear to be a robbery," Wallace said.

While there are two "persons of interest" in the homicide, there are "no suspects yet," Wallace said.

"We are still investigating it around the clock," he said.

Barahona, a farm laborer, had been in the Albertson area for only a few weeks, Wallace said.

The name of Barahona's roommate, who found the body, was not released since the investigation is continuing.

Sheriff's officials said last week that a brother of Barahona told authorities that he had talked with Barahona on Monday before the body was found Friday and that Barahona told him he was walking back home from a friend's house.
