The Seven Springs Board of Commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at the town hall on West Spring Street to determine who will temporarily fill the seat left vacant by Rodolph Adams, who died on Aug. 3.
The board will appoint somebody to fill the seat until the Nov. 3 election, in which Karen Mozingo will run unopposed for the open seat.
Filing for the seat was re-opened for five days from Aug. 19 until Aug. 25. Mrs. Mozingo was the only person who filed. Her husband, Bobby Mozingo, currently serves on the board.
Wayne County Board of Elections Director Vickie Reed explained that the extra filing period was necessary because only people who had filed for the town's two available nonpartisan seats were the incumbents, Adams and Commission Lisa Cash.
"If we'd had three people file then we wouldn't have had to do that," Ms. Reed said.
Town clerk Karen Webster said that applications are currently being accepted from people interested in the temporary appointement, and that the board would review the candidates and likely make the appointment on Sept. 9.
