Man tries to pass fake payroll check
WARSAW -- Warsaw police are searching for a man who tried to pass a fake Coca-Cola payroll check at a grocery store over the weekend.
The man used a fake N.C. drivers license and used the name Brandon Taylor on the check. Investigators said he has tried the same ruse in several other towns in eastern North Carolina. He also has used the name Brandon Smith in South Carolina. He was driving a small white car when he tried to pass the bad check in Warsaw.
Police Capt. Jerry Wood asks that anyone with information on the suspect should contact the Warsaw Police Department at (910) 293-7816 or (910) 296-2150 after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
Car stolen during work shift
April Walker of Rosewood Road said her car was stolen from the parking lot while she was working at Wayne Heart and Internal Medicine, in the 2000 block of Medical Office Place, according to a police report. Police are investigating the theft of her black, 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, valued at about $2,000, according to the report.
Park bench stolen
City of Goldsboro employee Marion Bradford noticed Monday that a wooden bench had been stolen from Walnut Street, police said. Around the same time, Goldsboro employee Landon Fleming reported that a building at Berkeley Memorial Park on Cashwell Drive suffered $200 in damages when someone spray painted the building with names and nicknames, according to the report.
Power outage
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office did not report any problems Tuesday due to technical difficulties caused by a power outage around 7:30 a.m. at the Wayne County Courthouse. Workers at the courthouse reported minor delays, including trouble with the elevators in the courthouse atrium.
