Wayne County detectives say they were suspicious from the start about an Eastern Wayne student's explanation for a BB-gun wound.

Now, the 18-year-old, Dahamoney Hakem Murchison, is charged with filing a false police report on Aug. 8.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Office alleged Murchison fabricated a tale about "several black males" who drove up in an SUV when Murchison was leaving football practice.

Murchison at first told police the males shouted disparaging comments about Eastern Wayne High School, then started firing a BB gun and struck him.

Sheriff Carey Winders said that Murchison has since complied with the Sheriff's Office investigation, and acknowledged the story was false.

Effler said that Murchison had been struck in the arm with a BB gun when authorities arrived at Eastern Wayne High School on Aug. 8.

But detectives did not believe Murchison's account of the incident added up.

Detectives soon learned the wound came as a result of "playing around" with the weapon, with two other students, on the campus of Eastern Wayne Middle School.

Christopher Michael Hines, 17, and Calvin Darnell, 16, were both charged with one count apiece of possession of a weapon on educational property.
