Charges are pending against two teens who allegedly stole a Ford Thunderbird from a friend's grandfather, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.
The Sheriff's Office became involved with the case when they received a report of suspicious activity behind a barn off Old Grantham Road on Wednesday morning.
When deputies showed up to talk to the teens, Dakota Trevor Green, 17, and Charles Robert Kennedy Jr., 17, they ran, Capt. Tom Effler said.
The 17-year-olds were charged with resisting police for running from the scene, the captain said.
Deputies recovered the Ford Thunderbird, which belongs to John Cartledge, 55, of O'Berry Road, Mount Olive, at the scene.
Authorities originally were investigating the case as unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, but other charges may be filed, Effler said.
The vehicle was returned to the owner, authorities said.
