Election deadline looming for fall

The filing period for five of the county's seven municipalities and five of its seven sanitary district boards ends Friday at noon. All of the elections are non-partisan.
The election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The voter registration deadline is Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. Absentee voting by mail begins Oct. 5. One-stop absentee voting begins Oct. 15 and runs through Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
As of press time this morning, no one has filed in Eureka or Walnut Creek.
MOUNT OLIVE
The mayor and four of the board's five members have filed for re-election.
Those four, Ray Thompson, at-large; Kenny Talton, District 1; Hosea Manley, District 2; and Gene Lee, District 5, filed together on the first day on July 3.
Lloyd Warren is not seeking re-election to the District 3 seat.
George Fulghum, who narrowly missed being elected two years ago, has filed for that seat.
Mayor Ray McDonald Sr. is being challenged by James Mayo Jr.
Mayo's family, which owns AM radio station WDJS in Mount Olive, has been at odds with the town for several years. The family unsuccessfully sued the town over a supposed town promise regarding paying to have the station's tower relocated.
The mayor and commissioners serve two-year terms.
SEVEN SPRINGS
Mayor Stephen Potter and Commissioner Rodolph Adams have both filed for re-election.
The five-member board serves staggered four-year terms. The mayoral term is two years.
The seat held by Lisa Cash is also up for election. Ms. Cash was appointed to the board in 2008.
PIKEVILLE
Ward Kellum has filed for one of the two board seats up for election. Commissioners Lyman Galloway and Edith McClenny and Mayor Herb Sieger face re-election. There are five people on the board.
The four-year board terms are staggered. The mayor also serves a four-year term.
EUREKA
Mayor Steven Howell and Commissioner Billy Martin are up for re-election. Also open is the seat left vacant by the death of Wayne Taylor.
Members of the five-person board serve staggered four-year terms. The mayor also serves a four-year term.
WALNUT CREEK
Mayor Darrell Horne and council member Kathy Daniels face re-election.
The four-year terms on the five-member board are staggered.
SANITARY BOARDS
Five of the county's seven sanitary boards have members up for election-- Belfast-Patetown, Eastern Wayne, Fork Township, Southeastern Wayne and Southern Wayne. Members serve four-year terms.
Belfast-Patetown: Incumbents Landis Davis, Fred Newcomb, C. Ray Sullivan and Ben Casey Jr. have filed along with Joe Brow. Edwin B. Beamon, the fifth incumbent, has not filed.
Eastern Wayne: Walter J. Bean, Billie V. Lee and Carl Mozingo have filed for re-election. Also filing is Kivett Ivey. Daryl R. Anderson has yet to file.
Southeastern Wayne (five seats): Edith S. Smith, James A. Taylor, Bobby Outlaw, Charlie M.B. Holloway and Sam Casey have filed for re-election.
Southern Wayne (two seats): Incumbents Sally Rawls Bowles and Dale Gainey have filed.
Fork Township (three seats): Incumbents Henry Braswell, Donald C. Neal and Dexter Taylor have filed.
