Driver charged in fatal wreck

The driver of a car involved in a Saturday wreck that left two women dead has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, Highway Patrol investigators said Monday.
Michael Eugene Sowers of Beaufort also was charged with failure to stop for a stop sign.
Sowers, 61, was still in Wayne Memorial Hospital, recovering from his injuries.
A passenger in his vehicle, Agnes Byrd Carney, 71, died in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle, Donna Karen Capps, 49, of Henderson, also was killed.
The accident happened at the intersection of N.C. 222 and N.C. 581.
