Automotive teachers earn recertification

Seven area high school automotive teachers recently spent three days as students at Wayne Community College, earning training hours to keep their programs nationally certified.
Terry Bradshaw of Princeton High School, Joe Buckner of East Duplin High School, Robbie Fonvielle of James Kennan High School, Bryant Keel of Charles B. Aycock High School, Ricky Kennedy of Wallace-Rose Hill High School, Jesse Murray of Eastern Wayne High School, and Wesley Stancil of Smithfield-Selma High School received certificates in General Motors Braking Systems and Toyota Hybrid Safety.
The two classes fulfilled the annual training requirements for maintaining National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation and Automotive Service Excellence certification.
Through simulated exercises and hands-on diagnostic procedures, the teachers gained knowledge, new techniques and materials to use in their classrooms.
The hybrid class was taught by David Bliskey, a Toyota-certified instructor from South East Toyota, and the braking class was taught by WCC's GM Automotive Service Educational Program instructors Kevin Jordan, Craig Foucht and David Byrd, all GM certified. The training was provided free by the college.
