The Muscular Dystrophy Association will sponsor a "lockup" of local business and community leaders today to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.
The event will start at 9 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.
The "lockup" will be at the Country Inn & Suites at 2302 Norwood Ave.
Jail "sentences" will last one hour, with 'inmates" calling friends and co-workers for a donation to the cause in exchange for their release.
Local restaurants will donate "bread and water" for the inmates.
Proceeds from the event will go to help people suffering from the disease in Wayne County.
Next to the national Labor Day Telethon, the lockups are the association's chief money-raising event and all those people called upon to either donate their time or money are urged to participate to help provide wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits and even a summer camp for local children with any of the 43 know neuromuscular diseases that MDA covers.
For more information about the event, call the Coastal Carolinas district office at (910) 763-3114.
