Wayne County Attorney E.B. "Borden" Parker pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in District Court, and was sentenced to probation and a fine, court records show.

Parker, of Evergreen Avenue, pleaded guilty as a Level 5 offender to driving while impaired, according to court records.

A charge of speeding, for allegedly traveling 60 mph in a 35 mph zone in January, was voluntary dismissed by the state, records show.

The county attorney will serve no active jail time, but Judge Charles P. Gaylor imposed 12 months of unsupervised probation on the county attorney during his sentencing on Friday.

If Parker violates the terms of the unsupervised probation, a 60-day suspended sentence could be imposed against the county attorney.

Parker was also sentenced to 24 hours of community service and a $25 fine.

The county attorney was pulled over on Elm Street around 1:30 a.m. in mid-January, and an blood alcohol test registered 0.16, approximately twice the legal limit to drive in North Carolina.

County Manager Lee Smith has said that the incident would not affect Parker's employment with the county.
