Dudley man charged in head-on crashes

Goldsboro police charged a Dudley man with felony hit-and-run and impaired driving after he allegedly hit two cars while driving the wrong way on U.S. 117 on Monday morning.
One woman whose car was allegedly hit by Alberto Gomez Sales, 41, of Buddy Lane, was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital yesterday morning.
Hospital administration said Sheila Lee, 57, of Dudley had been treated and released.
Sales was being held under a total $12,000 bond after the two accidents, police said. He also faced a charge of careless and reckless driving, and traveling the wrong way on a highway, according to his arrest report.
The accidents occurred just after 7:10 a.m. on Monday morning, when Ernesto Hernandez reported seeing Sales driving the wrong way on U.S. 117 North at the intersection of Elm Street, police said.
Hernandez told police he braked to avoid Sales' car, which caused Jose Acosta Alberto of East Pollock Street, Mount Olive, to rear-end Hernandez' vehicle, authorities said.
One of the passengers in Acosta's vehicle had three broken fingers and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.
After that accident, Sales kept driving the wrong way on U.S. 117 until he had a head-on collision with a vehicle driven by Sheila Lee, police said.
Another car driven by Jeremy Alston of Dudley also hit the front end of Sales' vehicle, according to the report.
Alston showed some signs of injury, but was not transported to the hospital, according to the report.
A first appearance in court for Sales is scheduled for July 22, according to his arrest report.
